FAQS

Mobility and Functionality

Check out our list of commonly asked questions to find answers to any general queries you may have.

Is my condition serious enough for a visit to a Specialist Orthopaedic Surgeon?

When specific conditions become more chronic and persistent, the treatment options may be beyond your GP’s expertise. If you experience severe pain, or if your pain is affecting your quality of life such that you cannot perform everyday activities normally (e.g. walking, standing or wearing clothes), visiting an Orthopaedic Surgeon for a detailed assessment and diagnosis is the best course of action.

Firstly, the doctor conducts a physical exam to locate pain, assess mobility, and check the strength of the affected area. Medical history is reviewed for underlying conditions. In some cases, X-rays or MRIs may be needed for a clearer understanding of the condition and accurate treatment advice.

Listening to our bodies is crucial, as pain signals that something might be wrong. Pushing through the pain barrier can exacerbate injuries. It’s optimal to address injuries at the first sign of discomfort; additional strain may worsen the condition and hinder recovery.

The timeline for returning to work or sports after an injury varies based on your age, the treatment received, and your health before the incident. It’s essential not to rush recovery, as it may lead to re-injury or complications.

Your doctor will collaborate with you to develop a thorough recovery programme, ensuring a gradual and effective healing process to restore you to your initial condition.
